🔥 Honoring Our Local Heroes: Spotlight on Columbia Volunteer Fire Company of Osceola Mills

At the heart of Osceola Mills, a group of brave, selfless volunteers stands ready to respond when our community needs them most. The Columbia Volunteer Fire Company is more than just a fire department — they are neighbors, friends, and everyday heroes committed to keeping us safe 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

🚒 Who They Are

Located in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania, this all-volunteer department serves Osceola Mills Borough, Decatur Township, and Rush Township in Centre County. Led by Chief Jerry Barnett, the department operates seven fire trucks, including a small utility truck and a large ladder truck, allowing them to handle a wide range of emergencies.

“We can basically cover any emergency that may arise,” Assistant Chief Trevor Harris said. “We are ready to help you in your time of need — at any time.”

💪 Powered by Community

The Columbia Volunteer Fire Company operates entirely on fundraising and community donations. Despite the challenges, their determination never wavers.

“We wouldn’t have the things we do without community support,” Harris emphasized. “We all work hard for what we have — and we are all volunteers.”

With 35 dedicated members, the department is truly fueled by local passion and selflessness. Every call, every truck, every rescue — it’s all driven by volunteers who donate their time, energy, and heart.

🎉 Big Events in a Small Town

In 2025, Osceola Mills will once again host the Pennsylvania Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association Convention — an impressive 133rd Annual Event. This marks the third time Osceola Mills has hosted the convention since 1995, and the excitement is building.

They also look forward to their Annual 4th of July Carnival Week, running from June 29th through July 5th — a favorite summer tradition that brings the whole town together in celebration and support.

👨‍🚒 How You Can Help

The department is always seeking more volunteers and community support. While they are doing well with equipment for now, manpower is a constant need.

“If anyone has free time and is looking for a cool hobby with awesome ‘toys,’ please come our way!” Harris added with a smile.

Community members can support the department by:

  • Volunteering as a firefighter or EMT

  • Donating to fund equipment and operations

  • Attending fundraising events

  • Spreading awareness about fire and EMS safety
